Jay Rock has been honored by the city that raised him.
On Friday, the TDE artist was handed the key to the South Los Angeles community of Watts. L.A. City Councilman Joe Buscaino provided the key throughout a public event at the Nickerson Gardens Recreation Center, where fans, good friends, and household collected to reveal their assistance.
The councilman then stated May 24 “Jay Rock Day” in Watts.
“For the last 12 years, Jay Rock has done so much, so much to lift himself, Kendrick [Lamar], and TDE into the stratosphere of international music influencers. Now they’re not called ‘Top Dawg’ for absolutely nothing,” Buscaino stated at the occasion. We enjoy you, Jay Rock, for your contributions to music, culture, and, most significantly, to this neighborhood.”
” To my homeboys, my homegirls: Guy, I like y’ all– offering me support because day one. And to my young kids out here that’s attempting to do the music, that’s pursuing y’ all’s dreams: Do not offer up, male. This a prime example right here.”
The Grammy-winning rap artist then took the mic and started thanking God, his household, the TDE team, and, obviously his neighborhood.
TMZ overtook Jay at the occasion, and asked him about YG’s current remarks about the “phony” love Nipsey Hussle has actually gotten. Jay stated he authorized of all the assistance Nipsey was getting, however acknowledged that lots of people do not reveal love to an artist up until he/she is gone.
